 Botox myths busted!

Botox

The aesthetic injectable business is full of contradictory & unfitting information that makes the entire process of determining whether Botox is right for you. So lets break it down for you.

Myth #1: Botox injections are very painful.

Most patients relate Botox injections to a mosquito bite. Barely felt by most or those who do feel it, it’s little more than a pinch. The needle used is very fine, so the trauma to the area is minimal.

Myth #2: Botox leads to loss of facial expressions

A major misconception is that Botox can make you look frozen or emotionless. This is only true if the injection is given by an individual who doesn’t use the proper technique. When injected correctly Botox looks natural & gives the patient a more youthful & refreshed appearance.

Myth #3: Cosmetic Botox is the same as Botulism

This misconception that Botox is unsafe is due to the fact that it is thought to be derived from botulinum toxin, a toxin commonly associated with food poisoning. But the levels injected into the body are not high enough to be considered toxic.

Myth #4: Botox is only effective for cosmetic reasons

Botox is used for a lot more than wrinkles, it has been used to treat migraines by reducing muscle tension & relieving the strain on the nervous system. It can also be used to treat excessive sweating, by injections given in the armpits & forehead. To learn more about therapeutic uses of Botox, feel free to message me.

Myth # 5: Botox treatments are toxic, unsafe & dangerous

Botox was first used in 1970’s to treat strabismus, since then, this drug has established a safe history there has been no record of death due to overdose & no long term side effects have been noted, to date

Myth #6. Botox & filler treatments are just for women

This is one of the most common misconceptions about cosmetic treatments. Men & women both ages & wish to retain their youthful appearances. Thankfully, more men are opening up to the idea of cosmetic enhancements to soften ageing lines which make some men not only look older but also angrier. Due to strong facial muscles, a higher dose is used in men.

Myth #7. Botox & Dermal Filler are similar

These are both cosmetic injectables but are different products & are used for different outcomes. Botox is a muscle relaxant used for prevention & to soften wrinkles Dermal fillers are used to fill up an area where there is a need to restore lost volume, example in the tear troughs under the eyes or to completely reshape a feature such as the nose or chin. Dermal fillers are also longer, more lasting than Botox.
