What is the Importance of Botox Injections?

Botox (Botulinum Toxin) injections improve the appearance caused by wrinkles. Botox injections relax the muscles.

These injections also treat other medical conditions (migraines, hyperhidrosis, overactive bladder, and eye problems). 

Botox treatment should be repeated every three to six months to maintain the results.

Before Botox Treatment

Your doctor will ask you about the current medication that you use.

Your doctor will ask you to avoid alcohol 24 hours before the procedure as it makes you more prone to redness and bruising. 

During Botox treatment

Your doctor uses a fine or thin needle to inject micro amounts of Botox into the treatment area. Depending on the problem, you may receive several injections in different spots.

  • Botox is an outpatient procedure; hence you can go home the same day.
  • There will be mild discomfort. You may feel a sting sensation. The application of a topical numbing agent will help you with the discomfort.
  • You may be given anesthesia. You may receive local or regional anesthesia if Botox treatment is for an overactive bladder.

Aftercare

You can return to work and most activities immediately after the Botox treatment. 

To deal with redness, swelling or bruising:

  • Avoid rubbing or putting pressure on the treatment area for 12 hours
  • Avoid lying down for at least four hours
  • Avoid physical exertion for 24 hours
